Please provide a brief description of the project for which you seek funding.

NOFA RI is organizing a 4 hour long intensive workshop for farmers and a 2 hour lecture for the public given by Elliot Coleman for farmers in Rhode Island. Elliot Coleman is a farmer in Maine who grows year round with exceptional yields on a very small piece of land. Coleman speaks regularly at farmer conferences, is a talented and helpful speaker and has written books on intensive organic farming, but because his flat fee for speaking is high ($4,000 plus travel and lodging) usually the workshops he gives are expensive for participants, often out of reach of many of the farmers who would benefit the most from the workshop. NOFA RI hopes to raise enough money so that the fee that participants pay is reasonable.

Whom does your group need to make this project happen?

Please explain how your group will engage members from your community in this project.

Please list these materials or services

Please describe what changes will occur in your community and its environment when your group's project is successful.

High land prices and high cost of living make farming in Rhode Island difficult. Many farmers grow on very small pieces of land, and struggle to grow enough to be able to make a living. Better knowledge of the systems that Elliot Coleman has figured out could help small scale organic farmers thrive.

Please list how many people in your community your group expects to actively engage in this project.
