Project Summary
The group received a grant in 2009 to engage largely Spanish speaking residents of the Olneyville and Silver Lake neighborhoods of Providence to increase awareness of recycling and sustainable consumption using culturally appropriate outreach and education methods. The City of Providence will be launching its "Green Up" campaign in November 2009 establishing a No Bin, No Barrel policy for the first time in order to increase the city's current abysmal, 9% recycling rate. The EJLRI will partner with the Action Committee of English for Action to engage community residents on the issue of recycling.
