Hanging out with fellow grassroots volunteers, celebrating community work, reflecting on trends, sharing stories and eating-good-food are key ingredients of RootSkills. We have put together a Friday afternoon-into-evening program that is focused on just those things. While we realize it may not be an easy option to join us on Friday, we really do hope you'll consider taking advantage of all that RootSkills has to offer to you, fellow group members and the important work you are doing in your community!
Community Organizing Clinic
Staff from Toxics Action Center will be offering a Community Organizing Clinic and stand ready to address your questions around Telling Your Campaing Story, Making the News, Coalition-Building, Delegation and other burning topics related to community organizing.
Dinner - YUM!
We are currently organizing a scrumptious dinner, working with caterers that know their local produce (as much as April allows!).
Regional Strategies, Local Impact! (& Spoken Word awesomeness!)
After dinner, we will hear from a various speakers focusing on topics like Food Systems, Energy/Climate, New Economy and Environmental Health (check back as we line up our speakers). The goal is learn about regional strategies and trends and connect that to work we are seeing in communities all around us. In between these 'PEP (People Energizing People) Talks', spoken word artist Tem Blessed will be showcasing his skills.
Hanging & Overnight Accommodations
After the talks there is ample time to hang, chat, and reflect. Overnight accommodations are secured with the Fairfield Inn (in downtown New Bedford) and Hampton Inn (5 minutes from downtown - with a shuttle available to bring you to New Bedford). We hope all of you will join us. You can indicate during registration whether you want to reserve a room.
