Participants will reflect on common challenges within nonprofit organizations and learn how implementing dynamic, democratic, work self-governance can provide solutions. Folks will leave this webinar understanding how to create a relationship with their Board of Directors that empowers staff to have autonomy to remain responsive to the needs of their community. Lead by the Sustainable Economies Law Center, speakers will also provide an overview of how management within self-directed organizations function.

The Grassroots Fund believes that the issues hindering the creation of a just sustainable community are intrinsically interwoven. For far too long many have falsely separated said issues. By doing so, both the social justice and environmental justice movements have been weakened. In an effort to remedy this, the Grassroots Fund believes that we as a community need to approach programs and solutions with a holistic, co-creation mindset, that values all lives, the natural systems, and resources that give us life, we call this the “whole communities approach”. The Harvest Grant Program aims to serve as a bridge between the environmental justice and social justice movements. 

During this webinar, participants will learn step-by-step where to look for major donors, how to get a meeting, and how to make a compelling pitch to build money for your movement.

Our current energy system, based largely on fossil fuels, primarily benefits those that have access to resources while placing the majority of the burden of its infrastructure on low-income communities and communities of color. As we transition to a clean energy economy based on renewable sources, it is critical that we shift both the technologies as well as the organizing strategies, policies, and incentives around them to ensure access for all.

Through their grassroots efforts in their communities, Heather and Isa both are actively transforming the New England food system and raising and reflecting on struggles, challenges and questions to guide future work. This webinar creates space to share some of the questions and reflections.
