Grow Grants Highlight: Rich Dae Entrepreneur Foundation

At the Rich Dae Entrepreneur Foundation, young people aren’t just participants, they’re the drivers. As rJo Winch put it: “They (youth) are the drivers and we (adult leaders) are the helpers.”

This grassroots group bridges generations through hands-on, heart-forward work and they have received two Grow grants from the Grassroots Fund to support that vision. In one recent program, local teens led workshops teaching elders how to use smartphones, set up email, and practice new tech skills, side by side with a buddy.

Our project has engaged youth and elderly in our community, causing a bridge in the gap between the ages. It has proven to help us build a more vibrant community environment. We know that when we understand each other, we see and understand the needs of others.”

The real magic? It goes both ways. Elders offer wisdom, life stories, and grounding while youth bring energy, curiosity, and tools for the future. What started as a new, unproven org just a few years ago is now a model for bottom-up, place-based organizing.

_______

Why this project was selected for funding in the Spring 2025 Grow grant round:

Grassroots Fund grant decision makers thought that Rich Dae has fully embraced Shifting Power in their work. Youth now lead programs from idea to execution, and returning youth members are stepping into leadership roles. The group leans into the unique perspective and wisdom young people offer their communities – and lets them run with their own ideas.

We see this as Environmental Justice in action. At the Grassroots Fund, we recognize that environmental work is not only about land and water, but also about the health, resilience, and connection of the people who live in our communities. Rich Dae’s work is a powerful example of how building intergenerational relationships and community leadership are essential parts of a Just Transition, rooted in equity, collaboration, and imagination for the future we all deserve.
