Our Purpose

Unity Center for Spiritual Growth has served Southern Maine for nearly nine decades, offering a welcoming space for reflection, connection, and community service. In 2006, we established a labyrinth as a sacred space for walking meditation and healing. It’s become a beloved resource for all ages including those with mobility challenges and even pets. Over time, the weed barrier deteriorated, making maintenance difficult. With community support and grants from Grassroots Fund and the Labyrinth Society, we completed a full facelift this summer. Phase Two is underway: we planted 50 arborvitaes to buffer road noise and support local ecosystems, installed seven cement pads to stabilize benches for accessible rest and reflection, and began planting eight raised garden beds with perennials to enhance the meditative experience. Four beds are complete; the rest will be planted this fall and spring. This grant would allow us to continue building toward our vision of spiritual inclusivity, honoring the dignity and mobility of every person who seeks peace, healing, and connection through the labyrinth experience. Our goal remains to make the labyrinth fully ADA accessible and complete the surrounding peace garden. This grant will help us realize a sacred space that welcomes everybody, every spirit, and every step deepening our mission to serve, uplift, and spiritually nourish our community.
