Our Purpose

Black Girls Achieve (BGA) is an empowerment program created for Black girls in middle school and high school. The purpose of Black Girls Achieve is to help Black girls develop the necessary skills and tools needed to navigate Black girlhood and society. BGA aims to raise awareness about the various ways social and political constructs affect the lives of Black girls. Furthermore, our organization serves as a tool to advance equity for Black girls. Compared to their white peers, Black girls are less likely to have access to social, academic, and emotional resources and support at home and in school due to various racial, gender, and socioeconomic disparities. The ultimate purpose of Black Girls Achieve is to empower Black girls while providing them with platforms to exercise and voice their power. BGA’s programming is based on five core themes: advocacy, education, career readiness and entrepreneurship, health and wellness, and women and girls empowerment. BGA’s goal is to complement the school curriculum by encouraging and educating girls to participate in discussions and experiences that are not often hosted in the classroom or the home. We also aim to provide life skills workshops for girls that will allow them to learn everyday skills that they can use during their lifetime. We are hoping to provide the girls with further knowledge about healthy living. We became active because we want to connect with other grassroots organizations.
