Our purpose is to provide food security for low-income, disabled, elderly and single parent family residents of Jamaica Plain during this covid19 pandemic and self-isolation. The overall goal is to be able to provide food, either as prepared meals from food pantries or groceries from local and chain stores (depending on product availability) to these folks in need who cannot venture out themselves. We formed this group to create solidarity within a neighborhood that has distinctive lines of inequity and to redistribute our resources in an effort to lower such inequities. Understandably, we will not be able to solve such structural inequalities within our limited capabilities, but we believe that we can help those most in need at least for the next few weeks with securing food access and build a solidarity network that will provide us with an opportunity for political education and organizing as well around social justice issues, in the spirit of mutual aid.
