Our Purpose

The purpose of the group is to teach gardening, local food systems, home economic, and culinary schools to at risk, bilingual, and/or low income students in Cache Valley. Jennifer Sapp and her husband, a contractor, built Cache Valley High greenhouse earlier this year (2012) on the Cache Valley High School campus. Cache Valley High is an alternative high school for at risk students who have not been successful at traditional high schools in Cache Valley, Utah. The students often come from low income, bilingual, or first generation families and often have issues with behavior or motivation. Jen now takes students out during a part of their science classes to get hands on experience in the greenhouse, learning science first-hand and how to grow their own food. The sister project would be to build a small kitchen area next to the greenhouse where students can learn how to cook with vegetables from the garden and take the food home with them to often low-nutrition or low-income households.
