Barrington Land Conservation Trust seeks to promote preservation of open space and create pathways for a new generation of environmental leaders. We strive to engage the entire community, with dedicated outreach to those who have been historically under-represented in the environmental sector.Like many small towns near urban centers, Barrington faces ongoing pressure to develop all of its remaining land. People in our area rely on public open space for daily access to the natural environment.Preservation of habitats has become increasingly challenging in the fragmented suburban environment. Thus, in addition to maintaining our existing open space and acquiring land as it becomes available, we seek to empower community members and elevate their voices on a range of environmental issues such as responses to climate change, indigenous food sovereignty, salt marsh degredation, wildlife corridors, pollinator pathways and other concerns.Since 1979, Barrington Land Conservation Trust has protected in perpetuity more than 300 acres of land in this town of 17,000 people, including several nature preserves, walking trails, and environmentally sensitive parcels.  Our volunteers - adults and students - also maintain three large preserves owned by the town. We collaborate with other nearby land trusts, local schools and universities, the Audubon Society, the Pokanoket Tribe, The Nature Conservancy, Save the Bay, student groups, and others.
