Our Purpose

to reduce the carbon footprint of the Town of Rye.

Summary of Projects

The Energy Committee received a grant in 2011 to conduct efforts around local food and energy conservations. The group will hold an open house showcasing the energy savings realized in the town buildings as a result of the EECBG grant work, create "no idling" and recycling improvement campaigns, continue with panel and book discussions, a sustainability film series, and sponsor hands-on workshops. We will continue our support of the farmer's market, increase circulation of the Rye Eats Local newsletter, and support the establishment of a CSA on town land.

In 2009 the Rye Energy Committee received a grant to build in the '08 programs on local food and: 1) explore how to restore an old Rye airfield to its former use as farm land; 2) establish a town CSA or community garden; 3) support and help sustain a Rye Farmer's Market; and 4) encourage residents to grow and raise their own foods.

The group received support in 2008 to reduce the carbon footprint of the Town of Rye, NH through education and awareness, a review of municipal energy and energy related projects. In addition, the group continued to support local foods through the publication the Rye Eats Local newsletter and the formation of a Town CSA and local food buying group.
