West Bridgewater Conservation Commission
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to... The West Bridgewater Conservation Commission's primary goal is the protection of wetlands and open space management. The Town of West Bridgewater Open Space Plan recommends adding access points to the Town River for boating, kayaking, sightseeing and possible swimming. The proposed project is to construct bog bridges at Reynolds Landing, which is an access point to the Town River that individuals will launch canoes or kayaks from, for outdoor recreation. Bog bridges are constructed to provide a stable walking surface over wet marshy areas. The Town River Pond is located in the southeastern section of Town that connects to the Taunton River in Bridgewater. Its elevation is 45 feet and it covers 18 acres, with the only public access via the Ash Street (Reynolds Landing) canoe ramp on the western side of the pond. The Conservation Commission and volunteers from the Open Space Committee want to do this work because adding bog bridges at Reynolds Landing will provide a sustainable and accessible solution for the hiking trails to cross the wetlands and other areas with wet or delicate ground benefiting both the environment and outdoor enthusiasts. Incorporating the Grassroots guiding practice “Equity in Participation” the Committees are creating this project so that everyone in the community has access to the waterway with safety.
