Our Purpose

to encourage citizen involvement in both neighborhood and city issues, to strengthen existing neighborhood organizations, and to foster the creation of new neighborhood organizations. It is the belief of the Waterbury Neighborhood Council that active citizen participation and involvement in city government and the issues that affect the quality of life in Waterbury are essential in the preservation of our city neighborhoods. The twenty (20) neighborhood association coalition members meet on a monthly basis to work together on the issues facing the city of Waterbury and each of its thirty seven (37) neighborhoods.

Summary of Projects

The group received a grant in 2011 to engage the citizenry of the South End of Waterbury in the formation of a revitalized neighborhood association. As the Waterbury Neighborhood Council engages the citizens in the area, the plan is to add their voices to the remediation and development projects currently on the drawing board of the state and city. Funds were used to help support a community organizer and secure some needed office equipment and materials.
