Vermont Street Medics Hotline
Our Purpose
The Vermont Street Medics Hotline group is working in solidarity with the local houseless community to provide support through the COVID-19 pandemic. "Stay home, stay safe", only applies to those of us who have a home to stay in, leaving others in our community in unsafe conditions. We support unhoused folks in central Vermont via a hotline, distribution of needed supplies, and transportation assistance to access testing to those without transportation. Vermont Street Medics consists of many volunteers: street medics, clinical herbalists, medical professionals, midwives, and self-taught first aid helpers. We offer our services in the spirit of the Good Samaritan law. Our operators will not give any advice that is outside of their scope of practice & training. We believe that everyone should have access to adequate health care and agency over their own health and wellness. We recognize that disempowering dynamics often exist in conventional medical settings and doctor/patient relationships. We work towards awareness of our own privilege and biases. We acknowledge that many health challenges stem from pre-existing inequalities and vulnerabilities created by the historical and ongoing oppressions of capitalism, colonialism and domination.
