Our Purpose

We want to directly address climate change and income inequality. Vermont has some of the oldest housing stock in the nation. Old leaky houses are uncomfortable, waste fuel, and emit excess carbon. This is especially a burden on low-income Vermonters. Weatherization is the cheapest and most effective way to deal with these problems. Insulated window inserts, as produced by volunteer groups under the guidance and material support from WindowDressers, are a proven low-cost intervention. Inserts are built by community volunteers and window recipients in week-long workshops . Our goal is to produce approximately 250 window inserts for approximately 45 houses in the towns of Chelsea, Vershire, and Corinth, Vermont. Following the policy of our umbrella group and the experience of near-by groups in recent years, we plan to supply about one-third of these at low or no cost to low-income residents. (To preserve the dignity of those residents, we will not require documentation of their low-income status.) We hope to continue and expand the program in the future, as we feel that our rural area of Orange County is a high-need area.Three Town Window Dressers is a newly formed group (and will be serving a town not previously reached), but members of the group previously volunteered in Thetford and Montpelier, and two were part of a core group for a window insert build in 2021 (Bradford, Corinth, Vershire, and West Fairlee). We feel that previous work was successful and valuable.
