Our Purpose

The SFLA mission is to create a new model of energy efficient community living and regenerative land stewardship in the village of Sheburne Falls. We seek to support each other and to be of service to the wider community by helping this land to flourish for future generations as a source of beauty, food, health, and hospitality.Begun in 2001, Phase 1 of the project included:
  • site analysis/project development
  • setting up an HOA
  • site preparation
  • common parking/access road
  • common building (woodworking shop & rental apartment) w/shared PV array,
  • construction of energy efficient homes, 12' x 16' storage shed, 16' x 16' platform for gatherings in a cherry grove,
  • 45' x 70' fenced garden,
  • chicken coop for 8 hens,
  • blueberry patch/15 fruit & nut trees
Each family has been active in the wider community, raising young children to maturity, and creating deep connections and friendships in west county. We have now moved intentionally as a community into a more active phase of community outreach, to invite others onto the land to share in it's potential. We hope to use our relationships and skills to create a thriving ecosystem for both humans and non-humans, guided by regenerative principles. We want to be a model for creating a local community-based regenerative food system that will address food insecurity and justice issues, and improve the well-being of the residents of Shelburne Falls.
