Our Purpose

Since 2001, SAFE has worked with our community to address the climate crisis. As a coastal city, long dependent on the fossil fuel industry, we are both vulnerable–and responsible for charting a sustainable and resilient future for our city. Our advocacy has made Salem a leader in the Green Communities movement, and we continue to work with elected leaders and residents to shift Salem away from fossil fuels and to develop a green economy. That vision was given a boost in the past year, when Avangrid decided to make Salem's port its hub for building its windfarm south of Martha's Vineyard.
