Our purpose is to build community power by helping residents and young people understand and respond to environmental justice issues affecting their communities. M2Z Collective uses community knowledge, storytelling, environmental data, mapping, education, and civic engagement to make complex environmental issues more accessible and help people turn what they learn into meaningful community action. We want to create accessible tools and opportunities that connect local history and lived experience with environmental information, so residents can better recognize potential environmental and health risks, ask informed questions, connect with technical and community resources, and participate in decisions that affect their neighborhoods.Environmental Justice Journey (EJJ) is one of the first projects growing from this vision. Through the EJJ children’s book, StoryMap, community storytelling, walking tours, and youth engagement, we are developing ways to bring environmental justice education directly into the community.Ultimately, we want to help create healthier, resilient, and more just communities where local knowledge is valued, residents have access to information, young people are engaged, and community members have the tools and relationships needed to help influence positive change.
