Our Purpose

Hewnoaks envisions a world where all artists, regardless of their background or circumstances, are nurtured, uplifted, and celebrated on their creative path.We play our part in this world by providing residencies to emerging and mid-career artists. We offer uninterrupted, unstructured time in a quiet, lakeside, rural setting with housing and workspace to artists of all backgrounds and practices at no cost.Internally, toward achieving our big picture goal for artists in the world, we are building our systems, capacity and structure bit by bit. Our large, but short-term goal is to become owners of the property (where we currently operate). Our mid-term goal is to support more artists each year by offering year-round opportunities and programming and our long-term goal is to establish an endowment that allows us to provide stipends for all artists who attend residencies.
