Our Purpose

Henniker Community Market is a farmers market, twelve years running, with a mission to support local farmers and craftsmen; bring locally grown food to our community; and to provide a physical space for community-building. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent closures, we organized a team of volunteers to raise funds, and purchase & distribute food to members of our community in need. Through crowd funding, donations from local businesses, and several grants including one from NEGEF, we raised approximately $25,000 and distributed food weekly to 60 Henniker households over the 12 weeks of pandemic lockdown. Our market has continued to serve our community through the pandemic. Though many of our farmers saw an increase in revenue, the impact of Covid on our region’s artisans and musicians has been profound, with several years of closed venues and cancelled events. We are applying for this Grow grant to fund payments to our musicians and to initiate a new visiting artist/demo program at our weekly market. Our market has live music every week, and thus far our musicians play for product donations from the vendors only. In an effort to support our region’s artisans, we plan to invite a local artist to be a vendor and do live demos each week. This grant will allow us to compensate these artisans and performing artists for their time, as well as add value and revenue to our market and bring even more community members together.
