Our Purpose

Our mission is to build community one food rescue at a time. Our purpose is to… eliminate food waste and its' detrimental effect on the environment by utilizing all good food. We recover food. We use a direct delivery model- from donor to receiving site. It is hyper-local- most food stays within a 2 mile radius of the donor. It is a volunteer driven model. We have nearly 300 volunteers. We use an app accessed by volunteers to manage the schedule of the food pick-ups. We focus on nutritious  perishable food. Business owners/institutional food managers have faced three obstacles in their attempts to  eliminate food waste: 1) knowing what can be donated, 2) finding a community site with which to share the food and 3) the transportation for that food. Haven's Harvest helps to overcome those obstacles by creating a strong community network and having volunteers committed to making a difference by moving food, using their own vehicles, and by knowing what food is legal and safe to donate. In 2021, we recovered over 1.5 million lbs  of food and distributed in the Greater New Haven area.
