Design Challenge Network
Our Purpose
All students deserve an education that is engaging and inspiring and that equips them with the skills of problem-solving, collaboration, leadership, and effective communication. Design Challenge Network works to move the world closer to that vision by partnering with teachers who want to implement our design challenge methodology. This methodology builds environmental justice leadership by empowering high school students in economically disadvantaged communities to tackle environmental problems that directly impact their lives. Through Design Challenge Learning, student teams identify environmental and social equity issues they care about—from clean water access to renewable energy solutions—design innovative responses, and present their work to community leaders. This approach shifts power from traditional top-down education to student-led, community-rooted problem-solving.We serve communities like Franklin and Hinsdale (ranked 199 and 201 out of 238 NH towns for income), where students often lack access to opportunities that develop leadership skills and environmental advocacy capacity. When students from these communities design solutions to pollution, climate impacts, and resource access issues, they're not just learning—they're building the skills and confidence to become lifelong environmental justice advocates in places that need them most.
