Our Purpose

The Cumberland Culture Center serves as a safe meeting point for new Mainers, regardless of faith and culture. We help them transition to a new life by providing basic resources and empowering them with integration tools while preserving their cultural heritage. Our programs, such as basic needs assistance, educational classes, recreational programs for youth, assisting immigrants with work and housing, mental health awareness, and community support fill the gaps and break down barriers. We support community members by providing food and clothes, transportation to important appointments (e.g., medical, legal, etc.), and classes where they can practice their English skills and learn about important social and mental health topics (e.g., substance abuse prevention, extremism, suicide). Moreover, we also issue official marriage certificates (authorized by the City Hall) and provide services for washing the dead (an important tradition for Muslims).
