Community Conservation Initiative began our "sustainable living" campaign in December of 2021 with the purpose of educating and bringing awareness to the challenges and opportunities for household recycling, reuse, and rethinking about living sustainably in an environmentally conscious way. We are working exclusively with refugees and asylum-seekers from the Great Lakes region of central Africa that includes Rwanda, Burundi and DR Congo to help them as they move into their government-subsidized housing throughout the Portland area. People who live in subsidized housing do not receive the kind of education they need about how to live responsibly, and our program works with young adults and parents on how to live more comfortably, safely, and responsibly.
