Our Purpose

The purpose of the BHS Year End Studies (YES) program is to provide nontraditional learning experiences for students who might not otherwise have access to such opportunities. These learning experiences often take place outside of the classroom and require more time to develop than is permissable in a traditional school day. The program runs annually for 10 days at the end of each school year. Students self-select what courses or interests they want to explore for these 10 days and are then matched with a teacher-led program that reflects these interests. The courses offered involve incredible community partnerships throughout Burlington and the greater Vermont area and range from an Aviation partnership with BTC, building robots with ECHO, farming with the Intervale, dragon boat racing, etc. The purpose of this grant request is to help fund programs that would not be able to run given our limited school budget for this program (such as offering an opportunity for students to learn about rock climbing both with local gym partnerships and at an outdoor crag in Bolton).
