Black Autism Coalition
Our Purpose
Our group’s big picture goal is to create spaces where families of children with autism, disabilities, and other diverse needs can find healing, connection, and growth together. The community garden project was born from the belief that food, nature, and community are powerful tools for inclusion and wellness. We want to provide more than a place to plant seeds, we want to nurture a sense of belonging, pride, and shared responsibility. Families often feel isolated and overwhelmed, and the garden offers an accessible way to participate in something positive, restorative, and sustainable. The overarching reason for this work is simple yet profound: to bring people together in a safe, supportive, and healthy environment where every family regardless of background, ability, or income—can contribute and benefit. We envision a community where children with autism and disabilities are not only included but celebrated for what they bring to the table, and where their families have a place to breathe, connect, and build relationships.Ultimately, our goal is to strengthen community bonds, promote wellness, and model how collaborative, inclusive projects can transform both people and neighborhoods for the better.
