As part of our ongoing mission to foster grassroots growth throughout New England, NEGEF is developing a variety of web tools to better share news, events and resources. In addition, we're putting our grant program online, making it possible for groups to apply for grants and manage those applications on this site.

As a non-profit, we are especially budget conscious. In our desire to create an advanced platform within our limited budget, we have made the tough decision to only support up-to-date browsers.

You can download a Word file with NEGEF's application questions if you would like to apply for a grant.

Thanks for your understanding.

Resources by Issue Area

Peer Technical Issue Resources Explained

There are currently over 1,000 groups in NEGEF’s database. With each grant round, more groups join the network and each group brings with it a range of creative ideas, innovative strategies and new approaches to making their hometowns healthy, just, safe and environmentally sustainable.

This section is focused on sharing some of those grassroots resources. Used and vetted by colleague volunteers around the region, these resources give you an insight into what has worked elsewhere. It is our hope that each user will find inspiration among these tools and will take what is available and make it relevant for their place and time.

As always, please feel free to contact your state’s program officer for help.

Issue resources are offered for each of NEGEF’s six issue areas. Within each of the larger issue areas the resources are broken out by 4 distinct types:

  • Project Development Materials: resources used by groups to manage their projects. Examples include liability waivers, town resolutions, design plans, etc.
  • Reports: resources used by groups to report back major findings from their local research. Examples include town energy plans, local food inventories, Superfund contamination reports, etc.
  • Outreach Materials: resources used by groups to communicate with their neighbors and raise awareness about their issue. Examples include brochures, flyers, posters, etc.
  • Links to Other Organizations: links to groups that offer information and support to grassroots community volunteer groups. This section is divided into:
    Local: links to some of the creative and innovative ideas that have come through NEGEF’s grant program;
    Statewide: links to the organizations in each state that offer support to grassroots initiatives;
    Regional/National: links to larger initiatives that have grassroots components or that offer useful tools to community groups.

Please click on one of the issues in the left column to find out what resources are available.

Please note that this system is currently in Phase I of development. In total NEGEF has over 1,000 grantees in its database. We are working to create the capacity to give you access to all of these stories and all of these resources. A complete system will allow each user to filter for those groups and resources that fit closest with their current interest. We are not there yet, but this website represent a first leap forward in demonstrating the potential of Open Grantmaking. Please let us know your comments/questions/concerns/feedback as we continue to build this new system together.
