Town Hall Energy Audit Sparks $138,000

Walpole, NH town hall to undergo weatherization

Using a NEGEF small grant to perform an energy audit on the local Walpole, NH town hall, the Triville Energy Committee did so well educating the community about the energy consumption that it earned $138,000! After hearing about the potential energy-saving measures for the building, a local citizen decided to apply for a RGGI-funded grant. The committee liked the application so much, $138,000 was granted for a $48,000 request to weatherize the town hall.

UN Copenhagen Climate Change Conference 2009

This week, all eyes will be on Cophenhagen. 350.org reminds us that this is a perfect time to act locally. Visit 350.org to sign up or find a local candle vigil to "light candles of hope to stand in solemn solidarity with the citizens of the nations whose very survival is threatened by the climate crisis".

Antioch Offers Pro Bono Advocacy

Antioch New England announces its Spring Clinic RFP. Clinic participants provide pro bono advocacy work on behalf of Clinic clients - organizations at the local, state, national or international level working for sustainability and environmental protection, corporate accountability, democratic governance and social justice.

Cambridge HEET Loses 146,000 Pounds

Cambridge HEET at work

BGI Grantee Cambridge HEET (Home Energy Efficiency Team) organizes free weatherization parties to teach volunteers hands-on how to lower their energy bills and carbon emissions. Volunteers have weatherized 24 buildings within Cambridge alone, saving 146,000 lbs. of carbon from being released. The group won the city's GoGreen award this year as the City's Outstanding Community Organization working toward sustainability. Click Here For More

NEGEF’s Grantmaking Committee has awarded 70 grants with a dollar total of $81,040 during the September 2009 grant round. 42 (60%) grantees are ad-hoc groups, with 38 (54%) groups receiving their first grant.
