Tools for Outing Clubs
Teens To Trails’ mission is to increase the opportunities for teens to experience the out-of-doors and form a personal connection with nature. The group’s goals are to increase public awareness of the importance of that connection to a teenager’s mental and physical well-being; to find ways to encourage and support new and existing high school Outing Clubs & other outdoor adventure programs; and to link teens with the many people and places available to help them experience their natural world.
The group’s successes so far include: a conference that reached over 300 people; a Grants-to Clubs program that directly supported 8 Outing Clubs; a significant increase in number of Outing Clubs in Maine since the start of Teens To Trails.
The group, located in Edgecomb (ME), received its latest NEGEF grant in 2006 to help cover the cost of the first annual Teens To Trail Conference organized specifically to support high school Outing Clubs in Maine. The event will further efforts to introduce high school teachers, environmental groups, and land-managing agencies throughout the State to the Teens To Trails organization and its mission to increase the opportunities for Maine teens to get into the out-of-doors.
