Group Details

Savestratford.org is organizing against EPA’s plans for in-town consolidation of up to 100,000 cubic yards of Raymark toxic waste (e.g. asbestos, lead, VOC’s, PCB’s) and wants additional remediation options explored. The EPA is proposing digging, hauling and dumping this toxic waste in residential neighborhoods in one of three sites including a Creek, a memorial ballfield, a beach park, and the town landfill. Savestratford.org highlights the health hazards posed by the consolidation of Raymark waste by educating the community through meetings, newsletters, a website, petitioning and mailings. Through community awareness the group seeks to influence the primary decision-maker to agree that consolidation is not the best option.

To date the group has gathered 3847 petition signatures (3291 paper and 556 electronic).

The group, located in Stratford (CT), received its latest NEGEF grant in November 2007 to create awareness and distribute information to all Stratford residents on the EPA’s consolidation plans of Raymark waste, and inform them that Stratford is currently a Superfund site that is not under control. SaveStratford.org is against all consolidation plans the EPA has proposed and is working with local politicians and state representatives to have Stratford residents’ voices heard and respected.
