REACH is a grassroots, community-based organization whose goal is to educate, promote awareness and effect positive change regarding environmental issues of local and regional concerns. REACH works with local, state and federal elected and government officials, scientific and medical professionals, and the environmental advocacy community to promote a cleaner environment through public education and the application of more effective environmental standards and laws.
The group’s successes include getting thousands of petition signatures that convinced the NH legislature to pass two bills to ban the incineration of construction and demolition debris in addition to the The New Hampshire Supreme Court issuing a decision to revoke Bio Energy’s Solid Waste Permit.
The group, located in Contoocook (NH), received its latest NEGEF grant in March 2005 to educate the community about the hazards of toxic emissions, to work with selectment to fight Bio Energy (an international company attempting to incinerate construction & demolition debris in the community) in Superior Court, and to file an appeal to the EPA contesting the air permit granted to Bio Energy.
