Hardwick Energy Action Resource Team (HEART) has come together to promote ways to reduce the energy costs and environmental impact of transportation, heating and lighting homes and businesses in the greater Hardwick area. HEART looks at all energy sources as solutions including fossil fuels and renewable energy including solar, wind, biomass and hydro-power and conservation as well as solid waste issues.
The group’s successes so far include: performing energy audits resulting in the passing of school bond issues totalling $105,000 to implement capital energy-saving expenditures; hosting a Sustainable Living Fair with 250 attendees; and being included in the new Hardwick Town Plan as an energy-conscious entity.
The group, located in East Hardwick (VT), received its latest grant in June 2008 to hire a local community coordinator to help staff HEART project activities including engaging Hardwick area residents to participate in town-wide and greater community energy initiatives.
