Group Details

Cool Communities Bath and Beyond (C2B2) is a group of concerned citizens from Bath, Maine, and neighboring communities who came together to take local action on climate change inspired by the Maine Cool Communities model to organize a campaign around reducing the municipality’s and community’s carbon footprint while saving energy and taxpayer/household dollars.

Currently there are over 50 towns in Maine working with the Maine Partners for Cool Communities to become Cool Communities. 22 Maine communities are signed onto the US Mayors Climate Protection Act. So far, 6 Cool Communities have put on Energy EXPOs, drawing over 700 people statewide.

The group, located in Bath (ME) received its latest NEGEF grant in June 2008 to complete a greenhouse gas emissions inventory for Bath (municipality and community) with help from a Bowdoin College intern and ICLEI software. The inventory will aly the groundwork for the City-sectioned Energy Committee to develop and implement a comprehensive and quantifiable short-term and long-term climate action and smart energy plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. C2B2 will also conduct a community-wide anti-idling campaign to engage the Bath public in emissions reducation actions that compliment the municipality’s efforts.
