Our Purpose

To educate and fascinate the people who live, work, and play in the Black River watershed, bringing together a variety of elements of the watershed as a community to work together through citizen science and hands-on projects that improve and maintain the health of the watershed.

Summary of Projects

BRAT received grants in 2007, 2008 & 2009 to implement (and continue) a new watershed education program in the Black River watershed: WaterWorx. The program is a series of flexible experiential/educational workshops and projects aimed at increasing community awareness of and involvement in issues relating to the health of the Black River. It targets youth, families and non-traditional participants and partners.

The Black River Action Team received a small grant in 2008 to continue and expand a series of experimental workshops called WaterWorx in the Black River watershed. This will include new features such as nature journaling and citizens-based water quality monitoring program.
