Grassroots Retreat FAQs

Is the Retreat an open event?

No, the Retreat is an invitiation-only event for our grantees and partners. Each year approximately 150 participants attend and the small size allow the focus to be both personal and engaging.

Why does NEGEF host an annual retreat when there are already so many event options?

Unlike other grassroots advoacy conferences and gatherings, the NEGEF Grassroots Retreat is an event that does not focus on one New England state or one set of environmental issues. Instead, the Retreat offers a powerful forum for networking and skills-building and opportunities for rejuvenation among grantees from around the region working on a variety of issues. Three daylong workshop options specifically designed for gthe rassroots community are taught by professional trainers and allow for in-depth coverage of one key topic.

Why does the Retreat location change every year?

NEGEF moves the Retreat around New England in order to make it as accessible as possible for all of our grantees.

Why does NEGEF charge for the event?

NEGEF charges for the Retreat for two reasons. First, we believe that people are more inclined to perceive value in something when they put a little bit of resources into it. Second, Retreat costs average $150 – $200 per participant. Our fee helps cover some of these costs yet keeps the event affordable for most, and NEGEF staff is available to discuss scholarship options.
