NOFA-MA Summer Conference

Join constituents from all over New England, New York and New Jersey, as we celebrate sustainable local food. There are over 200 workshops to choose from, dozens of exhibitors, a Teen Conference, Children’s Program, an Afternoon Fair with farm animals, live music, auction, and an ALL-LOCAL dinner. Stay on campus in the dorms or camp in a tent under the stars. This year we are featuring keynote speakers Sally Fallon Morell, of the Weston A. Price Foundation, and Dr. Fernando Funes, of the Cuban Association of Agronomists and Foresters. All registrations that are received before July 12, 2010 receive a $20 discount.

Leave it be or pull it out? Join the scavenger hunt to find plants commonly debated as weed or wildflower. Participants will identify plants, discuss the value of each plant, and learn safe management of weeds.

Matt Kochka (farm manager at ReVision Urban Farm) and Jean Claude Bourrut Lacoutre (assistant director at Natick Community Organic Farm) will walk participants through ReVision Urban Farm pointing out active pests and disease and fielding questions. Topics of discussion will include the life cycles and origins of pests and disease, pest management techniques, and gardening practices useful in controlling disease.


Boston Natural Areas Network’s Harvest Festival & Perennial Divide

Bring plants to swap and share in the perennial divide. Pre-divide plants to donate and bring containers to take plants home. Master Urban Gardeners (MUG) volunteers will be available to offer plant and gardening advice.
